Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
So far so good. We are playing a good style of football. Making progress, and this is inspite of the injuries the squad has suffered.

His biggest achievement so far is getting the owners to keep quiet!

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
i think hes the real deal and we are lucky to have him. Hes a classy guy. Potentially one of the best managers we will ever have, if he gets the right backing. Ps i think Anderson is going to be/is a great player also.

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
its certainly better on the eye than the previous 3 managers

It also looks like he will give the young boys a chance unlike the previous 3 too

early days but the signs are good

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
His manner and demeanour are pure class. The guy is a gentleman and he oozes charisma and professionalism.

I have been impressed by his methodical approach to eventually sorting the midfield issue. And also to how you can plainly see the improvement in our shape defensively. We are now very hard to beat which is where you need to start from.

He just gave me confidence that he knew deep down that the team eventually would start to click. Even after the first four defeats I still had confidence in him.

The team are playing the right way. Look exciting and positive when going forward. And although erratic and inconsistent at this time we are definitely moving in the right direction.

With a few less injuries, more time and perhaps two or three handy additions in Jan we could well be on the way to knocking on the European places.

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
Hes been a breath of fresh air. It was tough in the beginning, but he stuck to his principles.

I remember watching the press speak to him before the Everton game (having lost 4 on the bounce in the league) They asked him if he still believed in his own methods, and whether he has thought about changing them - he replied " I believe in my methods even more than ever "

The man is class. Of course, things havent been perfect, and i predict this season will be inconsistent, but we are certainly heading in the right direction.

He is a manager that will need to be backed to the hilt in the next few transfer windows.

The only real negative for me is his age.Hopefully, he will have us in a really strong and healthy position, so when he does leave in a few years, we will be an attractive proposition to the next up and coming progressive manager that is available - whoever that may be.

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
I always thought the jury was out during his time at city, thought he actually underperformed with that squad so not sure he is a top tier manager.

BUT he is perfect for us, and I couldn't be happier. "The West Ham Way" has really been derided by pundits in recent years, denying it ever existed, but Pellegrini really does play in the pure definition of it, Positive attractive football, too cavalier at times, brittle at the back, but who cares? We are entertained.

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
Best manager since Lyall. I love everything he’s trying to do. He has managed to change the playing mentality with whatever training method he’s using, and you can see the world of difference in our style.

If he can change the injury curse culture, we’ll be away. Can you imagine our whole squad fit and available and given enough time to click?

One can only dream.

Seriously, in Pellers I trust.

I've also been impressed at how he has got the team adapting to the offside trap, after a few shaky games at the start of his reign.

That's a good point. So many we're calling for him to go 3 at the back after 4 games, but that's not his style, and I'm really pleased he stuck to it. It would've shown a real weakness to the players if he'd have changed in my opinion. He needed to tweak a little bit in midfield and get the personnel right, but going to a 3 would've been a massive change and the wrong one for all sorts of reasons.

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
Good balanced comments on this thread.

Agree with comma and others that full backs and midfield still need strengthening. Full backs is the most urgent as Cresswell / Arfur are not the answer at left back and an injury to Zab and we rely on Fredericks who like Arfur seems suited to a 3 at the back set up not 4?

Central midfield is as mentioned below more about strength and depth in the squad. Rice was not convincing early on at CDM but has grown into the role but again who replaces him if he gets injured?

Special mention to Snodgrass who I and many had written off. He got himself fit and is motivated to prove he can play in the top division. But the move to a central role might be the making of him. He aint super quick but his "terrier like" running and closing is really helping and Noble should be behind him for the central role currently IMO.

Pellegrini worried me after those first few games. But even at my ripe old age I need to be a little more patient.

He needs time to change the culture and philosophy of the club and implement a longer term view or dare I say strategy but it looks like we are on the start of that journey. Will he be given the time and continued financial backing from the owners because it will take a fair few transfer windows to see what we might term a "step up to the next level".

An articulate gentleman who understands football and how it should be played. Clearly a great coach and we're lucky to have him if I'm honest.

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
prob 2 or 3 points of where we should be, but not bad considering the start we had.

the longer the season goes on the more the team should gel. would be nice to win a few on the bounce.

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
Got things working. Massive improvements in style of play and actual play from the first few weeks. Not afraid to ditch non performers and try other things- SNodgrass and Diangana for example. Both have shone.

Players look much better and more confident on the ball/going forward.

Still needs to get more from Anderson, but it looks like it's coming.

Made our two central defenders a fearsome duo. We still need a left back and Zabaleta can't go on forever despite being brilliant so far.

Overall after a worrying start and some bad injury issues, it's looking to come together very well at the moment and it feels like we're going to get better. Good job.

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
I think he has done a fantastic job

When was the last time we played football as good as this ?.

He's been unlucky with injuries that's for sure

The 3 defensive signings he has made, 2 CBs and keeper, have been top notch.

I;m not so sure he wanted Fredericks, but the movement of Rice to DM and to blood the youngsters has been hugely encouraging.

We always needed at lest 3 transfer windows for him to really make his mark.

Judge him better after those

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
The main thing I like about him is that no matter what's going on he doesn't panic, doesn't listen to hysteria and sticks to his vision.

Unlike the hysterical bollocks most of our fans seem to enjoy so much.

Trevor B 1:24 Mon Nov 5
Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
He identified Rice as our DM when he first arrived at the club, Sanchez was only brought in as back up.

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
Surprised more didnt point the finger at him before saturday. He spent £100M and wasnt getting a tune out of the players. Picked wrong teams and made wrong substitutions at times. Didnt address the CDM issue and start of season we couldnt defend for shit. Also we didnt really turn up for either Spurs game......huge X against him for that.

However they keep playing like they did on saturday and id have no complaints about him at all. Also like him bringing in 2 very good centre backs, the emergence of Diagana and us looking to play a decent style of football. Im not fully convinced, but more warming to him after seeing a display like i did on sat

eusebiovic 12:31 Mon Nov 5
Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
Rice has done well as a defensive midfielder but we need another young-ish mobile defensive midfielder with a bit of zip and tenacity to play alongside him.

Obiang is a good squad player and I still think we need another one in there...maybe the scout that spotted Diop needs to get on the case!

Bernie 12:25 Mon Nov 5
Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
Was really disappointed with his first game, playing way to attacking against Liverpool, Fredericks and Masuaku we're the wrong choice and we were hammered.

I like the style he's trying to play, quick possession based football and it's slowly developing. Been some good performances and some bad. The Anderson signing is still to prove completely fruitful, but I have faith that it will. Diop, Fabianski, Rice, Zabaleta and Arnautovic all excellent so far, Snodgrass deserves a mention too.

So far about a 6/10, but I expect it to get better as the season goes on.

Wilshire I assume is his plan

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
Rice is cooking nicely but for me he needs long term help. We need someone else available who is a step up from Noble, Obiang and Sanchez.
